majority report
Whenever I hear news of minority groups in Malaysia being ignored, sidelined, or mistreated, I am reminded again that judging a country by its economic and political power is superficial. The true litmus test of a country's greatness is how it treats people, including (especially!) ones that are commonly disadvantaged and underserved.
I wish we had more compassion for people regardless of their mother tongue, skin color, and spirituality. There is so much beauty in diversity, and this is literally part of the country's identity, hence the official tagline, "Malaysia, Truly Asia".
Much like a good bowl of rojak, it takes all sorts to for things to turn our interesting. The key is harmony.
Acknowledging and embracing our rojak-ness is how we progress as a nation.
This is a reflection post based on this.
