unwelcome everywhere
After going by a single letter online for a few years, I notice that people who can't/don't see my avatar tend to assume I'm a guy.
If/when they find out I'm not a guy, they generally become friendlier with me... until I bring up I'm non-binary lol.
A specific example:
I wanted to join a group Meetup cinema hangout and signed myself up. I later found out that my name was erased, and when I asked why, the host said she wanted a balance of men-women or mostly women. She then asked me point black if I was Male or Female. When I replied non-binary, she asked if I was born Male or Female.
Not sure which is wilder - insisting on shoving people into boxes, or feeling entitled to know something private - but I was annoyed at this point. I wanted to disengage without being disrespectful (she's a group admin and I figured the other 900+ members in the group couldn't all be as myopic as her) so I just said I was born female but I'm 'tomboyish'. After reading that, she ghosted me.
With that kind of attitude, as if I would wanna attend anyway lol.
