Working at night got me jetlagged
I started a new job last week and because I follow the working hours of a different timezone, I have no choice but to rest during the day.
But I uh... haven't really been able to do that well.
I knew my sleep has been pretty whack lately, so when I checked the sleep data I've been collecting with my smart watch, it didn't surprise me that I've only had 5 hours of sleep daily on average for the past 2 weeks.
Upon closer inspection though, I realised something alarming: while my longest sleep since I started my new job was 8½ hours on a weekend, I usually sleep less than 4 hours on work days — the shortest being 2¼ hours.
The app labels my recent sleeping pattern as "abnormal", which makes sense since I normally average 8 hours daily before. It also explains why I've been so lethargic lately, even though I barely do strenuous activities inside/outside the house: my brain had been running on 2+ hour naps and coffee lol. 😂
Of course I'm self-aware enough to know this is neither healthy nor sustainable, but I'm not sure where to go from here.
Tbh, sleepiness aside, I like working at night now because it's calm, but I need to figure out a system/strategy to silence my brain and not doom scroll etc during the day so I can rest.
